Localization

1 cun directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline, directly below the external occipital protuberance, in the depression between m. trapezius of both sides.

Functions

Quiets the spirit, expels pathogenic wind in any combination, opens the heart holes, cleans the heat.

Intersection

The point of intersection of the Du Mai, Yang Wei Mai vessel and Bladder Channel of Foot Tai Yang.

Indications

- Outside wind: headache, pain and muscle tension in the back of the neck, sore throat, cold fit,nasal blockage, ophthalmalgia, fever.
- Disorders of the mind: epilepsy (spastic contractions of the occipital muscles), hemiplegia, speech disorder (after a stroke), slurred speech in a child.
- The disadvantage of kidney Jing Qi: weakness in the lower extremities, weakness in the knees, paresthesia in the legs.
- Channel diseases: pain, numbness and tension in the back of the head.

Needling Method

Puncture perpendicularly or obliquely inferiorly along the occipital bone 0.5-0.7 cun. Do not puncture obliquely upward, in order to avoid damage to the medulla oblongata. Warming is prohibited.
